This park is a typical "Kaiyuu style” garden in the Edo period.

The Kiyosumi Gardens is famous amidst the locals of Tokyo. The splashing ponds and engraved rocks gives this landscape an artistic feel. There are rare stones from all over the world. The gardens are now attracting the people to know about the history of edo period and enjoy the views of the garden.

The division of the park land is believed to have been the house of Mr. Bozeman Kinokuniya, a famous merchant in the Edo period. In 1878, Mr. Yataro Iwasaki, a founder of Mitsubishi group, bought this area and built a garden for comforting his employees and also for inviting important business guests.

In 1932, Mitsubishi group donated this garden to Tokyo City and after some renovation it was opened to the public in 1932. The park was appointed as Place of scenic beauty of Tokyo Prefecture in 1979.

Hours: M- Su: 9a- 5p, admitted untill: 4:30p, closed: New Year Holidays.
