The Edo- Tokyo Museum was established on March 28, 1993 to preserve the historical heritage of Edo- Tokyo.

Exhibits on subjects related to Tokyo's history and culture, held many times a year. Both history and architecture enthusiasts admire the very contemporary building balanced on its landmark, gigantic pillars. A model of Nihonbashi (Japan's premier bridge) separates Edo from modern Tokyo (since 1868). Nostalgic aspects of everyday life are depicted to scale, without restriction of display cases.

It is a place where visitors come to learn more about Tokyo's history and culture. In the Permanent Exhibition area, there can be found originally and replicated exhibits as well as large- scale models, faithful representations of their originals arts.

Apart special exhibitions, the lectures are held regularly. There are also the Audio- Visual Hall, the Audio Visual Library, a library and other facilities that make this a particular museum where visitors can learn while having fun at the same time. The permanent exhibition at the Edo- Tokyo Museum showcases politics, culture and an insight into the lifestyle of the people from its birth to present day Tokyo.
